One big domino fell on Friday as the Milwaukee Wave re-signed forward Max Ferdinand to a three-year contract. Ferdinand was #2 on T&B Ranks the Top 40 MASL Free Agents.
The team announced the signing via a live Facebook video.
If Ian Bennett was the heart of the Wave offense, Ferdinand was the veins, distributing the ball all over the field. Ferdinand led the MASL with 30 assists and was seventh with 48 points. Bennett and Ferdinand both were named to the All-MASL First Team.
Ferdinand received offers from other teams, but liked his situation in Milwaukee. “It’s a great group of guys, coaching staff and the fans!” said the 30-year old.
Wave fans are surely breathing a sigh of relief to have Max back on board, but still at large is Bennett, who as of yesterday was “still looking” for a team. Whether he was playing coy or really could be leaving the Wave is unclear.
Ferdinand’s re-signing could make it more likely that Bennett also re-signs because of the chemistry the duo enjoyed last year. Ferdinand offered a literal tip-of-the-hat by wearing a hat from Bennett’s ib26 clothing line to the announcement.
“Ian is like my brother so I’m just supporting him,” said Ferdinand. “Obviously he is a big part to our team.”
The Wave promised more video announcements each Friday through July.
