Two years ago today the great experiment known as Turf and Boards launched with a question: What am I getting myself into?
The venture has been largely a successful one, though we were less prolific in our second year, publishing 138 articles compared to 210 the first year. Our articles were viewed 59,848 times by 35,706 visitors in the last 12 months.
On Facebook, Turf and Boards has 1,246 “likes”, and 522 followers on Twitter.
Midway through the 2018/19 MASL season we brought in Doug Montroy and his View From St. Lou column, covering the St. Louis Ambush.
It has been rewarding to see Matt Huber’s “Merlin’s Picks” become part of the arena lexicon.
Perhaps our greatest “discovery” has been Greg Suttie who took the opportunity to write for Turf and Boards and ran with it. Greg invested in production equipment and has become the MASL’s west coast man about town, doing interviews for the MASL, the San Diego Sockers, and his own Suttie on Soccer brand. Whether it’s Juli Veee, Zoltan Toth and Paul Wright, or Landon Donovan and Jermaine Jones, Greg is on the scene connecting fans to the stars of our sport.
Turf and Boards has been a part of a vanguard of new content, whether it’s by fellow DIY contributors like Wallascora, the aforementioned Suttie on Soccer, and Alec Marschke’s weekly prediction videos, or more official contributions from Michael Lewis’s coverage of the MASL and M2 to Craig Elsten’s Sockers and MASL podcasts.
We are still always on the hunt for new writers to help cover each of the MASL teams as well as the various other indoor leagues. Join the revolution as we head into Year Three!
As always, thank you all for reading and sharing.
