Gordy Gurson made his LMFR debut Saturday and notched a hat trick in a 7-1 Deportivo Don Roge win over Seleccion Monclova before over 500 fans in Sabinas.

The rowdy atmosphere turned from fun to serious after the game when someone vandalized the arena by spray painting the name of Monclova’s fan group, Barra La Bella, on the wall.

“After my first goal,” Gurson said, “I put my hand up to my ear to the visiting fans because they were talking trash saying this is Mexico and I can’t play here, but then I scored early and shut them up and got beer splashed on me and I loved it.

“I loved the atmosphere. Can’t wait to do it again.”

Gurson will have to wait until June 8. He will miss Friday’s road game against Saltillo Rancho Seco because he was recalled by the US National Arena Soccer Team and will be in Ontario, California for their game against the Mexican National Futbol Rapido Team. Gurson will team up once again with Kraig Chiles and Franck Tayou, and Landon Donovan and Jermaine Jones will be making their first appearance with the USNAST.
